Central Library - Profile

The college library has a rich history dating back to 1966, when it was established with a modest collection of 750 books and 5 periodicals. Over the years, the library has grown significantly, both in terms of its collection and the number of staff members dedicated to serving the academic community.

Initially, the library operated within the main college building. However, recognizing the need for a more accessible and conducive environment for students and faculty, the library was moved to a separate building in 1966. This relocation marked a significant milestone in the library's development, providing a dedicated space for scholarly pursuits.

The library's collection has expanded substantially over time, thanks in part to regular purchases of new academic and general books funded by the UGC grant. As of today, the library boasts a collection of 48,093 books, offering a diverse range of resources to support teaching, learning, and research.

The library has been served by a team of qualified librarians throughout its history. Three dedicated librarians have contributed to the library's growth and development over the years, retiring after serving their respective tenures. Currently, the library is managed by a qualified librarian and two Record Assistants, who work diligently to ensure the efficient operation and accessibility of the library's resources.

In addition to its regular operations, the library has benefited from the expertise of Sri Tholla Rama Sunkanna, who has been acting as the In-Charge of Library Science since joining the college as a Lecturer in Physics in August 2023. His involvement has undoubtedly brought valuable insights and guidance to the library's management.

Overall, the college library has evolved into a vital asset for the academic community, providing a wealth of resources and supporting the intellectual growth of students and faculty. Its journey from a small collection in 1966 to a well-established library today reflects the institution's commitment to academic excellence and the provision of quality library services.

Enriching the Learning Experience: Access to N-LIST Resources:

  • In addition to the comprehensive resources available within the library, our students also benefit from access to the valuable N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) resources provided by INFLIBNET. This collaboration significantly enhances the learning experience by providing students with a vast repository of electronic journals, books, and other scholarly materials.

  • Through N-LIST, students can explore a diverse range of subjects and delve deeper into their research interests. The extensive collection of e-journals offers access to the latest research articles, keeping students updated with the advancements in their fields. Moreover, the availability of e-books provides convenient and flexible access to essential textbooks and reference materials.

  • N-LIST resources empower students to conduct independent research, explore new ideas, and develop critical thinking skills. By leveraging this valuable platform, students can broaden their horizons, enhance their academic performance, and gain a competitive edge in their future endeavors.
